A mild to warm day with no wind was perfect for an IFAA round. We shot the Wallaby range which is an IFAA hunter round. A small group of members participated along with students (and family) of the Hunter Academy of Sport.

A great day weatherwise, with some occasional sunshine and no wind. We welcomed 12 team members/family from the Hunter Academy of Sport. With 15 club members it made one of the largest fields of the year.

It was a nice sunny day, but the air temperature reminded us that it was winter! And then in the open areas of the course when the wind blew it was even colder.

The club again welcomed archers from the Hunter Academy of Sport, and a good number of club members and visitors for the shoot. We hoped that all enjoyed the day.

Well, it was a perfect day at Avon with mild temperatures and not a breath of wind. Unfortunately there was only a small group of members on hand to enjoy the conditions and courses. The Hucksteads from Dungog visited the club and Nigel and Jayden had their first try at archery.

A perfect day - sunshine, mild temperatures and no wind.

Club members and visitors from the Hunter Academy of Sport tried their hand at an IFAA round.
Its only 2 weeks to the Australasian Champs in Sale (Victoria) so all were keen to get in a final practice session.

Half a 'field' round was conducted on the new Koala range followed by a half 'hunter' round on the Wallaby range.

Avon Valley Field Archers ABA Grading Round 222/04/07

Plenty of activity this month at the range. We have moved the 'Koala' IFAA field range to another part of the property. Previously it was intertwined with the 'Bellbird' ABA course. Now that they are separated there is much more flexibility available to event organisers. It looks as though some of the shots are across more open terrain than we have been used to at Avon so maybe the wind will play more of a role in future shoots on this course.

Activity also around the club house with Reade and his assistants adding an extension to the clubhouse.

And even more changes. The practice range has been reorganised with both IFAA shots in yards and ABA shots in metres.

We had another ABA Grading Round on 22/4/07 in mild and calm weather on the 'Goanna' course.

On Sunday the 4th we held the first club shoot of the year after the December/January recess. We were joined by the Hunter Academy of Sport - Archery team for an IFAA Field round.

The weather was hot, so not everyone that started was able to finish the 28 targets. For some it was their first venture into field archery, so we hope that the experience was a positive one.

Club Members excel at World Titles

Seven members of the club travelled to Hervey Bay, Queensland with family for a holiday and to compete in the World Field Archery Championships (WFAC) held at the Wide Bay Field Archers facility.

Almost 580 archers from 12 differnt countries converged on the club for this event. The club had designed 5 world class ranges for the senior archers to compete. A 14 target cub range was provided for the youth of our sport to compete.

This WFAC was organised and ran to the highest standards seen in field archery circles. The club and ABA executive excelled in the preparation for this event, with the highest accolades being given out by IFAA President Loet Smit and Vice President and Shoot Director Steve Kendricks. The Wide Bay Archers, both members and executive should be commended for there effort in hosting this event. Thanks Wide Bay!

Locally our seven archers competed in the five day event with some mixed results. Jeff Jennings shot consistantly all week, shooting his way into third place and the bronze medal in the Veterans Bowhunter Unlimited division. Ella Hartcher shot a number of personal best scores during the competition to be awarded third in Cub Girl Barebow Recurve. Ella shot against the Trafford sisters from the USA, who are both members of the USA Olympic Training Development Squad.

Lynn Farhall shot strong scores within her division and grade to be placed within the top 20. Peter Fairhall shot in the Adult Male Compound Freestyle Limited Division to finish a respectable 8th. Peter Smith shot in the Veterans Male Bowhunter Compound division, shooting some respectable scores and placing 4th. Tynan Fairhall competed in the Adult Male Freestyle Recurve division, posting some respectable scores finishing 5th in his division. Finishing in the top 10 was a great achievment for Tynan. He shot against David Barnes of Victoria, who set a number new world records. Tony Hartcher had a disappointing tournament, unable to find form until the last day of competion, finishing 32nd in the Male Bowhunter Unlimited Division.

Although most of our members, except for Jeff and Ella were not expected to be placed within the medals, most shot well within their expectations and goals. The experience alone compete in a World Class event will enhance their archery and will always be a memorable moment in archery.

The Champion of Nations again went to USA with Australia second by 16 points and New Zealand third. The next WFAC will be held in Namibia (Africa) in 2008. The next large IFAA tournament will the Pan Pacific Regional Titles to be held at the Pheonix Club in Sale, Victoria during the Queens Birthday Longweekend in 2007.

The clubs next shoot will be a ABA round this Sunday the 25th June at the Stratford facilities.

ABA Round 28th May 2006

The Avon club conducted a ABA, 3 arrow and 1 arrow round on Sunday the 28th May. Five members posted some solid scores for the unmarked rounds. A number of other members opted for the practice butts in preparation for the upcoming World Field Archery Championships (WFAC) at Hervey Bay. The WFAC is being conducted at the Wide Bay Archers CLub grounds west of Hervey Bay. The competition will be conducted over five days, commencing with a marked field round, then hunter, then animal round. A further field and hunter will follow. A presetation will be conducted on the Saturday afternoon, where it is hoped that some of our members will recieve recognition for their efforts.

Mothers Day IFAA

A fine and sunny mothers day saw a large gathering of archers at our Upper Avon Road range. Eight members completed a 28 target IFAA field round with others opting for practice on the practice area. Visitors from the Hunter Archery Academy also completed the 28 target round. The Hunter Archery Academy is the brain child of our club members Lynne and Peter Fairhall, who put in countless hours with these up and coming juniors.

Visitors also included Gary Nichols, Vera Coote and Keith and Rena Derrick who had travelled to Gloucester to mix archery with a bit of 'Shakespeare'. They had attended the Shakespeare Festival which is a annual event in the Gloucester area.

The club provided the usual canteen facilities which many members took full advantage of. A raffle was held with first prize being a large cream and fruit topped sponge cake, cooked and donated by our resident cook Irene Jennings and second prize was a lovely bottle of well matured wine, donated by Peter Franklin. Thanks must go to Irene and Peter. First prized by won by Tony Hartcher and second prize was won by visitor Gary Nichols.

State IFAA at Gunnedah

Six archers from Avon Valley Archers travelled to Gunnedah on May 20 and 21 for the State IFAA Titles, which was hosted by Namoi Valley Archers. As always the Namoi Club provided excellent amenities and suberb ranges for the titles. Over 80 from throughout New South Wales were in attendence, competing for the title of State Champion in their respective divisions.

Of the six archers from Avon Valley, Ella Hartcher and Reade Moffit were crowned State Champions after shooting personal best scores to take out their respective divisions.

The other members Jeff Jennings(3rd), Lyn Fairhall(3rd), Tynan Fairhall(3rd) and Tony Hartcher(2nd) all won metals in their respective divisions

Members are now in full preparation for the World Field Archery Championships (WFAC) at Hervey Bay in June. Eight members will travel the distance to Hervey Bay to shoot the championships against archers from throughout the world. The championships are being hosted by the Wide Bay Archers, west of Hervey Bay. Ella Hartcher should place well in the cub girl barebow recurve division, whilst Jeff Jennings will compete in Veterans Open and is hoping his good form will continue to return home with a top 10 finish.
